Celebrating the Life of

Tony Berger

Our beloved Camp Friendship Executive Director Antonio "Tony" Berger passed away on April 18, 2024, at age 55. He had a nearly lifelong association with Camp Friendship, starting as a young camper, then as a counselor and finally as the leader of the organization that he loved.

In addition to his work at Camp Friendship, he worked tirelessly as a Youth Development Specialist at the Department of Juvenile Justice/Division of Youth and Family Justice. His dedication to youth development and compassionate approach to counseling left an indelible mark on the lives of many young people in the Brooklyn community.

As we celebrate Tony's life, we are reminded of the words of Mahatma Gandhi, "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." Tony embodied this sentiment through every aspect of his life, always putting others before himself and finding his purpose in the joy and success of the people he served.

Tony's passing is a profound loss to Camp Friendship and the larger Brooklyn community and everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed, yet his legacy of kindness, dedication, and community service will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have been touched by his extraordinary life.
